2008 Year in Review

1.4.2009 When you look back at 2008......we truly have had a very busy and active year. We have accomplished many things and have set in motion a variety of programs. We have continued our Social Traditions, have initiated our Philanthropic Thrusts and we have RECONNECTED and GIVEN BACK....both to NIU Sigma Pi and to the University. Here is a recap...   January-March 2008   1st Annual President's Day Get Together at Jim Mason's in Ft Lauderdale with Special Guest Head Football Coach Jerry Kill   3rd Annual Greek Town Dinner in Chicago   Sponsored Sigma Pi Jerseys for all Actives   Sponsored Sigma Pi Jerseys for all Pledges   April-June 2008   Formalized our Charter with Sigma Pi National recognizing the Beta Sigma Alumni Group at the largest in the Country   Established the Beta Sigma - Sigma Pi Foundation and Adytum on High Scholarship Philanthropies. We have raised $8500 to date, of which a $1000 Adytum on High Scholarship was awarded to Sigma Pi Active Joe Horn. When we reach $10,000 in our account, we will make a $10,000 donation to the 2-14-08 Scholarship Fund in the name of Dan Parmenter. More to follow on this topic very soon.   Supported Huskie Caravan in St Charles, IL   Tugs Sponsorship Provided Tugs Jerseys for all Actives and Pledges   Sponsored Women's Volleyball Tournament with proceeds going to the 2-14-08 Scholarship Fund   July-September 2008   Summer House Cleanup and Cookout A HUGE SUCCESS   Hole Sponsorship - Women's Basketball Team Golf Outing   Created Dinners for Actives and Athletes Program  Sponsored Women's Basketball Team Steak Dinner   Created the Great Grandfather and Grandfather (GGF&GF) Mentor/Advisor/Helper Program   Sponsored Alcohol Awareness Program at NIU    Created the Roadmap to Success and Detour Program for Actives, Alumni and their Kids This included the implementation of Study Tables for Actives and was highlighted by the naming of Denise Schoenbachler, Dean of the College of Business, as our Faculty Advisor.   September 20th Football Game with Pre-Game at President's Tent   October-December 2008   Hole Sponsorship - Executive Club Golf Outing   Homecoming Weekend - Over 150 NIU Sigma Pi Alums celebrated Homecoming weekend at the Barsema Center (Friday and Saturday), listened to the Footstompers Band, socialized at the Sigma Pi Tent and enjoyed Food and Beverages.   Executive Club Formal - Sigma Pi was well represented at this gala event   2nd Annual Yordon Center Football Game - We rented the Yordon Balcony for the NIU vs Navy football game   Christmas Reception at the University Club in Chicago   Established our First Ever BROTHER IN NEED TASK FORCE to help an Old Brother.
